Heading towards 30 degrees in Gippsland

It may be a cool start to Tuesday in Gippsland but be prepared for temperatures in the high 20s as the week goes on.

Senior forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology, Richard Carlyon, said the region will reach temperatures we haven't seen for six months.

30 degrees is forecast for Bairnsdale and Orbost on Sunday.

"Northerly winds through most of the week will drag the heat from New South Wales southward into Gippsland," Mr Carlyon said.

"Tomorrow the mid 20s.

"Then Thursday, with a freshening northerly wind ahead of a low pressure trough, looks as though we'll see temperatures in the high 20s, nearly getting to 30 degrees.

"Looks cooler on Friday behind a weak change due in Gippsland late Thursday.

"We do see the heat return very quickly on Saturday as temperatures move toward the mid 20s.

"Then Sunday, ahead of the next change, temperatures in the high 20s, even 30 degrees in the east.

"So a much warmer week on the way," Mr Carlyon said.
