Government must rule out overhead transmission line says O'Brien
Gippsland South MP Danny O'Brien said he is alarmed to see 500 kilovolt overhead power lines south of Sale listed in government planning documents, 20 years after they were ruled out for the Basslink project.
Mr O'Brien said a directions paper for the government’s new Renewable Energy Zones includes a $300-$700 million overhead power cable running from the Latrobe Valley through to the Giffard area, south of Sale. However he believes such power transmission lines should be underground, not through above-ground pylons.
Mr O’Brien said the notion that overhead electricity transmission lines would be built is at complete odds with the move to renew and modernise Victoria’s energy grid.
