Two injured as tree falls

Paramedics called to Hazelwood North

Two people were taken to hospital today after a tree came down on them at Hazelwood North.

Emergency services were called to a property on Hazelwood Ridge at about 10.50am.

A man and a boy were treated on the scene by paramedics before being taken to Latrobe Regional Hospital. They are both in a stable condition.

A Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds continues along parts of the Gippsland coast and alpine areas.

Wind has been bringing down trees and branches across the region, and traffic police are urging drivers on country roads to go carefully around bends. Officers are concerned that drivers might not see a tree or branch on the road until it is too late.

Wilsons Promontory has had record peak wind gusts more than 120 kilometres an hour this morning.

The SES has received more than 200 calls for assistance in the past 24 hours from areas including the Melbourne suburbs and West and South Gippsland. More than 170 of those related to fallen trees.
