Free travel in April as buses replace trains

Rail passengers on the Bairnsdale and Traralgon lines will be on buses again for three weeks in April.

Work will commence on the South Yarra entrance to the Metro Tunnel on 1 April impacting on suburban lines that Gippsland trains use.

There will also be power, signalling and station upgrades in the suburbs.

The state government will subsidise free V/Line travel for the period 1 - 23 April which includes Easter.

A mixture of express and semi express coaches, including stopping at Parliament station will replace Gippsland line trains for the whole journey.

Passengers travelling on the Bairnsdale replacement coach services will still need to reserve a seat, but no charge will apply.
