Gippsland Road Safety Forum In Sale This Evening

A road safety forum will be held in Sale this evening, making up part of eight regional roundtables that have begun discussions on curbing the rising road toll.

The forum will be attended by road safety experts, local government and community leaders who will look at the reasons behind the disproportionate number of country road deaths, and how to prevent the loss of life.

So far this year, 12 people have died on the roads in Bass Coast, Baw Baw, East Gippsland, Latrobe City, South Gippsland and Wellington.

Minister for Roads, Road Safety and TAC Jaala Pulford said that they are reaching out to regional Victorians.

“Close-knit regional communities are often the hardest hit by the devastating and long-lasting impacts of road trauma. Similarly, they are incredibly effective at rallying for a common cause.”

“We’re asking regional Victorians to spare a couple of hours to speak with experts and fellow community members about what more can be done to stop people dying or being seriously injured on the roads they drive every day.”

The state road toll stands at 185 (as of Sunday August 18th) up by 61 on the same time last year, with a concerning 106 of those deaths coming on rural roads.

Those unable to attend are enocuraged to have their say, via the Engage Website.

The Gippsland Road Safety forum will be held this evening from 5.45pm at the Ibis Convention Centre in Sale.
