Sale Races Abandoned

Racing at Sale was abandoned after a nasty fall during race 5 today

There are concerns for the welfare of apprentice jockey Chris Caserta, who was one of four riders to fall during Race 5 at Sale on Wednesday.

The meeting was indefinitely delayed following the race, a maiden event over 1611 metres, pending the transfer of Caserta by air ambulance to Royal Melbourne Hospital suffering from concussion and rib and back soreness

Jockeys then opted to abandon the meeting due to concerns for the welfare of their colleagues involved in the incident, which occurred 500m from the finish.

The other three jockeys involved - Thomas Stockdale, Joe Bowditch and Michael Walker - were treated at the track before Bowditch and Stockdale were taken to Sale Hospital.

Reports indicate Bowditch has a suspected broken collarbone while Stockdale has concussion and a lower leg injury.

Walker, despite having a sore back, opted against going to hospital.

All four horses involved in the accident - Grey Lord, Be Amazing, Signorelli and Cases Dream - are fine.
