Gippsland's driest three years on record

Figures released by the Bureau of Meteorology show both east and west Gippsland have recorded their driest 33 month period on record.

"It remains dry in East Gippsland, particularly so in a region probably stretching from about Sale through to Lakes Entrance," Mr Trewin said.

"This is the third year in a row of dry conditions there.

"2019 hasn't been as far below average as 2017 or 2018 were."

With the region's substantial food and fibre sector being heavily impacted, state and federal governments, and the Wellington and East Gippsland shire councils, have announced support measures for farmers, and rural communities and businesses.
