Round 2 for Gippsland Power girls as boys squad is finalised

The Gippsland Power girls have their first home game this Saturday and they are keen to play in front of friends and family.

Power plays Eastern Ranges in round two of the NAB League girls competition and they are keen for their first win of the season.

Gippsland Power head coach Rhett McLennan said the match is at Morwell East.

"Anything that the girls do that they get a change to actually play in front of families and friends, they relish.

"They love the exposure of football and what it brings at the NAB League level, and if we can get a decent crowd there to support them where their training base has been so far this year, I'm sure they'd be happy," Rhett said.

The Gippsland Power boys started training together as a group on Tuesday night, with a final squad of 35 to be announced in the next month.

Round one of the NAB League boys competition is in the first week of April.

Rhett McLennan said the boys squad will be smaller this season.

"Usually it's about 45, but 35 is the number we've been given by the AFL to have on our final list this season.

"There may be opportunities for boys playing in a local competition who are playing well... they could possibly come into some games during the season.

"And our younger Under 17s could get an opportunity to play at the new Under 19 NAB League level."
