Police seek information about Glenmaggie scrub fire

Police investigating a scrub fire on the foreshore of Lake Genmaggie last Sunday believe it may have started when strong winds lifted embers from an extinguished campfire into surrounding grass and scrub.

As investigations continue detectives would like to hear from anyone who was camping in the area at the end of Abbots Road, or saw anything suspicious, last Saturday or Sunday.

Those with information are being asked to contact Wellington CIU on 5142 2200 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

October is traditionally the month when the number of motorcyclists on Gippsland roads increases with warmer weather, which is why Victoria Police has commenced Operation MotoSafe.

The operation will run throughout Gippsland, focusing on reducing the incidence and severity of road trauma, targeting riders and drivers impaired by alcohol and drugs, as well as fatigue.

They'll particularly focus on motorcycles and other vehicles heading through Gippsland to Phillip Island in two weeks for the Moto GP.
