Only minor bushfire activity on hot windy day

Gippsland was spared any major bushfire dramas yesterday as hot, dry northerly winds moved across the region, followed by a windy cold front.

A few small bush- and grass-fires were quickly controlled by fire crews including one near Glenmaggie Winery, Tinamba West.

Around 3 hectares of grass land and scrub was burnt.

Meanwhile a 1.5 hectare fire is burning in steep, remote country west of Dargo. Aircraft are involved in actively fighting this fire and heavy machinery is en-route.

Another bushfire approximately 5 kilometres north of Bruthen has been contained. Firefighters are on site and will continue to monitor this fire.

Firefighters are also assessing a bushfire around 4 kilometres south east of Butchers Ridge, and another just east of Tostaree.
