Police and father John say disappearance is out of character.

Police ramped up the search for missing Newborough man Jarryd Lovison yesterday, holding a press conference attended by his father John outside Moe Police Station.

Detective Sergeant Graham Hamilton said Jarryd had been chopping firewood with a friend and was in good spirits on April 15, the day that he was last seen.

He was captured on CCTV footage at Kmart and Woolworths in Moe, and was last seen just after 9.45pm on 15 riding his green mountain bike along March Street in Newborough.

Police said his phone had been used in the early hours of April 16. They have knowledge of who was contacted, but are not releasing that information at this time.

Jarryd's father John made an emotional plea for information about his son, saying he would always let his parents know if he wasn't going to be home, and that he would not leave his dog behind if he had left by choice.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
