Budget summary for Gippsland

Tax cuts and a big infrastructure spend in last night's federal budget will benefit Gippsland.

The budget was big on stimulus measures to boost jobs and to get the economy growing again after Covid-19.

To summarise a few key points for Gippsland:

The Bonang Road will be sealed all the way through in a $9 million project. And there's money for local councils to spend on roads and infrastructure.

Gippsland's substantial food and fibre sector will be boosted as part of a massive export push.

The government has funding to reduce the impacts of bushfires and to boost firefighting capability.

Last night's federal budget provided a boost for apprenticeships which will benefit many Gippsland young people.

The Boosting Apprenticeships Commencement wage subsidy will support employers who start or recommence an apprentice or trainee in the coming year.

The 50% wage subsidy is said to be particularly beneficial to the Latrobe-Gippsland region which has suffered some of the most significant job losses in regional Victoria.

Apprentices Group Australia has welcomed the announcement and the support it will provide Gippsland residents to upskill or get back to work.
